I grew up in a small town in northwest Iowa. I am a grandson of Czech immigrant farmers who settled near Little Falls, MN and Cedar Rapids, IA, and the great-grandson of a Founding Father and the first Secretary of State under President George Washington. I turned a life-long passion for drawing, painting, and being outdoors into a degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University in 1996. By creating dynamic, custom landscape designs for my clients and overseeing dozens of projects each year, the life-long passion continues!
I use CAD planning, modeling, and imaging to bring the designs to have great discussions with my clients and bring the designs to life. My mission is to bring beauty, joy, and function into the outdoors, and have my clients fall in love with their home all over again.
I will work hard to find the best value for my clients, so that they can make their dreams a reality. I was a featured designer on HGTV's Curb Appeal in 2009, and have had a project featured in Midwest Home magazine.
Other than landscape design, my other passions include spending time with my wife and two children, watching baseball, playing pick-up basketball, one week of hard-core fishing in Canada each year, visiting State and National Parks, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. I love being a father. I always make time to toss a ball in the yard with the kids and have coached Little League baseball for the past 7 years. I also play Infield and Catcher for a 35-and-older Wooden Bat Baseball League baseball team, as I have a much better baseball swing than I do a golf swing. Baseball is the fountain of youth and a perfect outlet for a mid-life crisis. I am known to work on designs with the Minnesota Twins game on in the background, or with good music to set the mood and be creative. And, I enjoy stopping out at project sites to discuss with the crew and clients, helping make the project as absolutely enjoyable as possible.
